Mudpack Festival

Date: June 15-16    Location: Murcia, Negros Occidental

The festival is a symbolic celebration of man’s return to a primitive time when he was closer to nature. It seeks to instill in people the awareness and care of the environment and the use of natural materials in arts and craft. The highlight of this emerging festival which falls on the 22nd of June is a merrymaking with dancers’ faces covered with mudpack and bodies painted with Mambukal clay.Mayor Andrew L.  Hugyaw Festival

Date: June 5-12    Location: Silay City

The weeklong celebration starts with the celebration of “El Cinco de Noviembre”, a one-day bloodless revolution in Silay which caused the surrender of the Spanish civil guards. The series of activities include a food festival, Know Silay Quiz, Ilonggo poetry presentation, agro-industrial fair and days for the multisectoral groups. Special focus in on Kansilay street dance – drama competition participated in by the 16 barangays. It features the “Legend of Kansilay”. The parading on the Feast of St. John the Baptist of “dressed” and decorated “lechons” (roasted pigs) around town. Revelers partake of the lechons after the parade.

Street pageantry and contest focusing on the Leyteños’ old custom of tattooing that signifies courage and status in the community.
